Luton Carnival - 30th May 2011

On the Spring bank holiday Monday Luton has its annual Carnival, the biggest one day carnival in the world.
The 'Friends' of St Mary's had a stall at the start/end point of this years Carnival to help raise funds to preserve our
building and to raise the profile of our little Church. We even had our own Carnival Queen shaking a bucket to
raise funds to do the necessary work to keep our grade one listed Church building in good order for generations to come.

Tuesday 8th March 2011 - Mardi Gras or Shrove Tuesday

An annual tradition our Mardi Gras get together. On the last evening before Lent we all get to gather for a chips and bits supper to fill us up before we prepare for Easter. Fr Yenda presented one of his quizzes (the best one yet) to stretch our little grey cells and then all was finished off with a raffle. The evening raised welcome funds to put towards the maintenance of our Church buildings.

Sunday 30th January 2011 - Candlemass

Today we had Bishop Alan Smith, the Bishop of St Albans visit us. It is his first visit to our Church and it was lovely to have him come and celebrate and preach at our parish Eucharist. Bishop Alan shared an uplifting, thought provoking and humorous homily drawing from the Gospel reading of Jesus' presentation in the Temple. He reminded us of the importance of remembering those often marginalised in society like the poor and the elderly as it was those who the Lord chose to be the first to understand the Glory of His presence on earth.

Sunday 23rd January 2011 - Confirmations

Today a very full Church welcomed the Rt Revd Richard Inwood, the Bishop of Bedford to confirm candidates from St Mary's. Bishop Richard first baptised Helen and Ashley; then Charlotte, Georgia, Chante, Elaine, Jenny, Helen, Ashley and Dennis were all confirmed. It was a lovely service with much to see and hear and it was great to see so many family and friends visiting to support those being confirmed.

We were also pleased to have another 'visitor' today although one can hardly call her a visitor. For sixty years Joan played
the organ here at St Mary's and retired late last year to Devon. But as she was visiting this weekend she played again for us at today's service.
