Fr Yenda - 'The Old Days'

When a priest is first ordained, the first thing he does is sing his First Mass.  My first Mass took place at All Saints' in South Shields where I was a curate, the day after my ordination.  These are two pictures which were taken after the Mass.  All Saints' had a long tradition of training curates, and the curate's first mass was always, naturally, something of a big and very joyful occasion. Again, very happy memories of my time in South Shields!

All good things come to an end! My last day as Curate at All Saints' South Shields, after four and a half very happy years...with Fr Miller, who trained me.

Another couple of pictures of my last day as a curate at All Saints' South Shields.  Sitting in the stall after Mass, and also with my mother, who made the trip north for the occasion!  Fr Miller always said that you should enjoy your Curacy...I am both very lucky and very glad that I did!

This is the occasion of my Ordination to the Priesthood, again at All Saints' church, South Shields.  Again in the picture is Bishop John Gaisford who ordained me, and to my right is my mother.  To the left of the bishop is my Gran's sister, 'Auntie Rose'.

This is the occasion of my ordination as a Deacon, at All Saints' Church in South Shields where I served my title as a Curate.

To my right is Bishop John Gaisford who ordained me, to the right of him is Fr John Miller, my Vicar for four and a half very happy years at All Saints, and the white haired lady on my left holding the stick and the service book (and the ever present handbag!) is my Gran, who died a few months later.

Happy times at All Saints' South Shields!

This was taken in the early 'naughties', around 2001/2.

These are the wonderful ladies of All Saints' South Shields celebrating the centenary of the mother's union. The MU held their monthly service in All Saints'.  The tea and cakes afterwards were always very good as I recall!!
