Visiting Preachers

The Annunciation - Monday 31st March 2008

Today we were joined by Fr Anthony Moore Chaplain to St Catherine's College Cambridge.
He preached on the message to Mary from the Archangel Gabriel.
"And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God"
(Luke 1:26-38) emphasising the salutation 'Fear not' 'do not be afraid' and its relevance to us all today.

Sunday 4th November 2007 - All Saints

Today we were joined by Fr Neil Roper who spoke about how our Saints were ordinary people
like us with our failings and issues but strove to live better lives, thus we should be more like Saints and
strive to live our lives doing the right things for others as we would have them do for us.

Saturday 8th September - Birth of The Blessed Virgin Mary

Our September Festival celebrated the birth of Our Lady and we were pleased to have
Father Charles Card-Reynolds Vicar St Bartholomew's, Stamford Hill London come to preach at our service.

Saturday 18th August - Patronal Festival

On the Saturday after the Assumption of Our Lady we held our Patronal Festival, We were
very pleased to welcome Father Darren Maslen who visited us all the way from South Shields.

Sunday 24th June (St Alban) - Bishop of Hertford

Today we were very pleased to welcome Bishop Christopher Foster the Bishop of Hertford
to help us celebrate the Feast of St Alban. Bishop Christopher also stayed after the main service to
talk to the children in our monthly children's service.

Sunday after Ascension - Confirmations, 20th May 2007

 
We were very pleased to be joined by The Rt. Revd. Christopher Herbert , the Bishop of St Albans.
The Bishop was here today for the Baptism of Laura and confirmation of Laura and Adam, to preach and
preside at the Pontifical Solemn Eucharist assisted by Father Yenda.
 

Ascension Day, 17th May 2007

 
We were delighted to have Fr Mark Williams from Barnet Vale to preach and concelebrate at
our Ascension day service. Fr Mark has preached at St Mary's before and is a 'favourite'.
Many thanks to Fr Mark and Fr Yenda for a great evening.

St George's Day, 23rd April 2007

On Monday 23rd April we celebrated St George's Day and were very pleased to
welcome Fr James Westcott from St Chad's Haggerston in London to Preach at a Solemn Eucharist.

Second Sunday in Lent, Sunday 2nd March '07

It was our pleasure to welcome Fr Wealands Bell to our Church to preach about
the importance of Jerusalem as the place of the Cross as we approach Easter.

St Luke's - October 18th 2006

   
Fr Grantley Finlayson from St Andrew's Luton came to preach and concelebrate
at the Solemn Eucharist in the evening

Saturday 19th August 2006

Fr. Ian Rogers from Shepherds Bush, London, visited to preach at our Patronal Festival.

Sunday 9th July 2006 - 4th Sunday after Trinity

 
Father Richard Franklin visited us for our Parish Eucharist, this time he brought along his Mum, it
was lovely to see her and we hope she enjoyed the visit. Fr Franklin was one of the many Priests
who helped out at St Mary's during the interregnum and it was great to see and hear him preach again.

Thursday 29th June - St Peter & St Paul

 
On Thursday we celebrated the feast of St Peter and St Paul with a Solemn Eucharist
in the evening. Father Stuart Seaton Vicar of St Peter's, Bushey Heath visited to preach.

Thursday 15th June. Corpus Christi

Father Wealands Bell the Chaplain at Aldenham School joined Father Yenda, the servers
and congregation of St Mary's to celebrate the festival of Corpus Christi with a
Solemn Eucharist with procession and Benediction on a beautiful summer evening.

Sunday 22nd January - Confirmations

The Rt. Revd Richard Inwood, the Bishop of Bedford visited St Mary's
to Confirm Sharon, Alan & James.

January 8th Epiphany,

Fr Mark Williams from Barnet visited to Preach in
the evening at Solemn Magnificat & Benediction

Sunday 11th December, Advent 3 Gaudete Sunday.

Today we were visited by Father Michael Sansom to preach at this mornings Eucharist.
Fr Michael is the director of Ordinands in our St Alban's diocese.

Sunday 6th November.

As Father Yenda was unable to be with us this week Father Digby Anderson
from St Saviours in Luton visited to Celebrate Solemn Eucharist
and Father Scott Martin from St Luke's in Leagrave preached.

Sunday 23rd October.

Father Tom Barron visited us to preach on the greatest commandments, Matthew 22.34-46.

Saturday 10th September

St Mary's Vestment and Flower Festival.
Fr. Beresford Skelton preached at the Solemn Eucharist service in the afternoon.

Sunday 19th June.

Today we were joined by the Archdeacon of Bedford, the Venerable Paul Hughes,
to preach and concelebrate at the Solemn Eucharist .

Sunday 12th June.

Fr. John Gribben CR came to preach and concelebrate at Solemn Eucharist.
Fr John is a member of the monastic Community of the Resurrection at Mirfield.

Fr Yenda led the first Solemn Evensong for many years at St Mary's. The Revd Richard Huband (Fr Yenda's Godfather) joined us at this service and preached the sermon, unfortunately he declined to divulge any humorous stories about Fr Yenda...

The service included a Benediction using our new Monstrance which was Blessed during the morning Eucharist. It is dedicated to the memory of Peggy Everritt a devoted worshipper at St Mary's for many years.
