Nativity set or crib figures

Christmass Day - Epiphany
2006
These very beautiful crib figures were purchased in 1962 by Mr
J. L. Dickinson. They are believed to be French and are of a rather soft
material of plaster and chalk which unfortunately chips or breaks very easy.
Over the years the figures have lost arms and legs etc and they need to be carefully
lifted by the base to avoid any chips or breaks.
After 40 years it was decided by a church member Robert
Campbell to refurbish the set of figures. Over the last 5 years he has replaced
arms and legs etc. and completely repainted them all. Originally they were all
painted in Matt colours but Robert has repainted them all in gloss colours now
which has made them much brighter and more detained. Each colour has had to be
painted separately and allowed to dry before another colour can be started.
Last year after 5 years work all the figures were finished and
many people said how much better and beautiful they looked in their gloss
colours. I see no reason why they should not last another 40 years and hope you
all agree that 5 years work careful work by Robert has paid off in improving
these lovely figures.
